Summary for DAS Automotive
Use: Former Gas Station, presently an automobile repair garage.
Source: Soil contamination from gasoline
Tanks removed 1992, 4 gasoline and 1 waste oil.

1993 (3) monitoring wells were installed on site and sampled revealing lead exceeding NJDEP standards in all three wells.

1997 a fourth well was installed off site. All four wells sampled and results revealed the first three wells exceeded NJDEP standards for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylene. The fourth well had no exceedences.

1998 all four wells were sampled and results for the first 3 wells exceeded limits for toluene, ethybenzene, xylene and benzene. The fourth well contained laboratory method detection limit (MDL) for benzene.

2000 soil excavation in the area of the former pump island of approx. 571.71 tons were removed.

10/2000 Notice by Target Environmental Co. was sent to two residents in regards to quarterly potable water testing.

1/2001 soil delineation activities were performed to determine the extent of the remaining contamination. Soil boring found several samples collected that exceeded the limits for xylene.

2/2001 monitoring wells 1-3 were sampled for BTEX compounds above limits. Well 4 was not tested because of snow coverage.

4/2001 Well 4 sampled and revealed no exceedences.

11/2001 a total of nine (10) soil borings were conducted for delineation of the extent of soil contamination. One soil sample contained total xylene above limits.

9/11/2002 monitoring well number 5 installed.

9/26/2002 well 1 revealed above limits of ethylbenzene, toluene, total xylene. Well 4 contained benzene above limits. Well number 5 showed no contaminates above limits.

Brinkerhoff Environmental Services who performed the remedial investigation recommended that more residual soils be removed and further ground water investigation be performed. Brinkerhoff also recommended quarterly sampling is performed on all on-site and off-site monitoring wells.

10/03 three property owners in the vicinity of DAS had water analyses and no exceedences were revealed.

02/1/2007 Brickerhoff notified Franklin Twp. That the NJDEP has requested that DAS install two deep monitoring wells and is requesting permission from the township.

02/12/2007 an attorney for Brickerhoff notified two near by property owners on Pearl Street and Euclid Street requesting access to the property to install monitoring wells.
